Changes to our music video.

We have only very slightly changed our music video. We have added a new flashback (the girl with her friends at school). We have also decided to reverse the clips near the end so it goes backwards. We have decided to do this because this will give the audience different interpretations and they can decide whether she did leave the house or not. We feel that this will create an interaction with our audience.

Filming finished...

Our filming is now finished and we have now uploaded our clips to the Mac. We have decided to use the Macs now because they are better quality. We have had to convert clips from my camera at home and put them on the Macs. We are now editing our film.

Sunday 24 January 2010

Filming again...

We have just finished filming, due to the weather we have not been able to film. I am now in our media, due to people letting us down. We decided it would be easier for me to do it as I know the song very well. We did try and get a range of shots and we have decided to film in Lutterworth as we wanted a shot of the school to show the girls background and we thought it would be easier to film it in this town. We have found places in Lutterworth that are appropriate for our music video.

Considering the audience profiling...

Having done the activity of audience profiling, we have decided that our target audeince is going to 16-40. We know that this a broad audience but we feel that 30 was quite young and 40 year old's will be more likely to have experienced having a child running away. We also feel that the genre of our song will appeal to a more older audience as when they grew up they would of mostly experienced listening to this genre of music.

More changes to our music video...

Some more changes that we are going to make to our music video is we are going to make the shots a lot quicker, this is so we can build up the tension and keep the audience gripped to our music video.  We are going to show more shots of the band but also still show a lot of the girl as she is important in our music video.

Our music video...

We have encounted a lot of problems on the way of filming our music video, due to the bad weather and the nights getting darker quicker it has been difficult to film. We have had to choose another actor for our film as the girl who we casted as the main girl who has runaway, fell ill. This means we had to choose another actor for our film. We are going to re-film the girl running away because the mise-en- scene wasn't good because of the lighting. We have re-filmed the band because we felt that the band should be filmed in the girls bedroom as this is where most people go when they are depressed. We have done some flashback shots inside of the girl, we just need to finish the running away part. We have almost finished our website and our CD covers.

More website shots..

This is another shot from our website. This shot shows some of the other parts to our website. We are going to have a section called "Tour" and we will include some tour dates. This is popular on band websites so we wanted to follow the traditons of what is seen traditionally on a band website.

Website shots continued...

This is a shot of the bands name at the top. The reason we chose this type of font is because we thought it conveyed the meaning of our music video of being depressing and not happy. As you can see underneath the title there is the music playing. We have lots of different boxes on our website containing information about the band. The "About" box on our website will have information and pictures about our band. This will create a connection with the audience because they can get to know our band. There will also be a box labelled "Album" to show the album of our band. Our album cover that we are making will also be there and we will include the other list of songs that are on the album. We may also have a track list that the audience can then have the option to play the other music that are on the album.

Our website...

We have started to create the website to promote our band.

This is the start of our website. We have kept with the same colour schemes that are on our blog. We are going to add pictures and information on our band. We have also added our song to the page so when people click onto the website our song will be playing. We havn't decided wether we will put the music video or the song playing first. We think it would be easier to have our music video playing because this is easier for the people looking on our website as they can pause it when they want to stop it. It is sometimes more difficult to find how to stop songs playing on websites and videos are much easier to find.

Filming

On the weekend we started to film our media. On saturday we filmed the band that is in our music video. We took lots of different shots so we have enough to edit with. On sunday we filmed the girl that is running away which is the main part of our story. We only have a few more shots that we are going to film that we will finish this week. We are starting to edit our footage. We are going to be using a different programme and not the Mac's because we think this will be a more effective programme.

Sunday 15 November 2009

Experimental shots

Before we started to film our music video earlier today we decided to do some experimental practice shots. These were so we could see the mise en scene and the lighting of the shots and to see if the sounds were right. Below are some of the shots we used. This is a practice shot that we took before filming. We thought the sound and the lighting was good and looked good.

This is one of the practice shots that we tried out. The lighting worked well on our practice shots and the sound was a good quality.

Another theory "The Male Gaze"

This is another theory we learnt in class a few weeks ago, and I have been thinking it could be important to our music video,  as our main character in our film is a female. "The male gaze" is a theory that is thought up by Laura Mulvey in 1975.  This is a theory that explores the visual pleasure of narrative cinema and it deals with the concept on how the audience view the people that are presented.
There are different ways that feminists are thought of:
How men look at women
How women look at themselves
How women look at other women

Some features of this theory are when the camera lingers on the curves of the women's body and an example of this shot would be a slow pan upwards from their feet to their face. These shots often show what men look at when they look at women. The face is the last thing they look at. It makes the women seem objects to the men. However we could critise this theory because some women like to be looked at, in a sexual way as they like the attention. Also some women rely on the attention of men as this can sell and they can sell their image as a living.
Other people have looked in to this theory, some of these people are:
In 1980 Marjorie Ferguson who researched female expressions and came up with four different categories:

the chocolate box- The description of this theory is half or full-smile, lips together or slightly parted, teeth barely visible, full or three-quarter face to camera
invitational-emphasis on the eyes, mouth shut or with only a hint of a smile, head to one side or looking back to camera
super-smiler-full face, wide open toothy smile, head thrust forward or chin thrown back, hair often wind-blown
romantic/sexual-a fourth and more general classification devised to include male and female ‘two-somes’; or the dreamy, heavy-lidded, unsmiling big-heads, or the overtly sensual or sexual

Another comment that had been made about this theory was  Trevor Millum in 1975 who researched male expressions and produced five categoriss

Carefree-active, healthy, happy, vibrant, outdoor girl; long unrestrained outward-flowing hair, more outward-going than the above, often smiling or grinning
Practical-concentrating, engaged on the business in hand, mouth closed, eyes object-directed, sometimes a slight frown; hair often short or tied back
Seductive-the eyes are less wide, perhaps shaded, the expression is less reserved but still self-sufficient and confident; milder versions may include a slight smile.

Comic-deliberately ridiculous, exaggerated, acting the fool, pulling faces for the benefit of a real or imaginary audience, sometimes close to a sort of archness
Categorical-neutral look as of a dummy, artificial, waxlike; features may be in any position, but most likely to be with eyes open wide and a smile, but the look remains vacant and empty; personality has been removed.

Also a theorist Johnathan Schoeder in 1998, had an insight to this theory and believed that the "Gaze" was more than just to look at someone or something. He said that he signifies a psychololgical relationship to show power, where the gazer is superior to the object of the gaze.
This may apply to our music video because our lead role is a female but then we arn't showing she has the power because we want to show the sterotypical "Niave" of young women. We do want our female role to stand out and be the one that the audience feel most connected with. So we will consider this theory and see if it does apply to our music video when we start filming.

Theories are music video could follow...

I have been thinking of some of the theories that our music video could follow, and i found on the A2 media blog "Steve Archer's Theory" It says that "There needs to be a stong and coherent relationship between narrative and performance in music promos" I feel this could make our video stronger we need to show that our narrative is linked to the music. It allows says "Music videos will cut between a narrative and a perfomance of the song by the band" We are going to apply this to our music video because we will show the band singing the song and also the narrative telling the story of the song. I feel that this will be important for our music video because the audience will then become more connected with our music video.
Another theory that i thought was interesting and that we could apply to our music video is "Andrew Goodwin's Theory" One of his theories that we are going to use is "Close-ups should always be included" We are going to use this in our video so the audience get a feel of our character. We will also try and find some other music video theories to use.

"The Third Wave Collective Identity"

Yesterday in class, we found out that we are no longer a media class but we are now "The third wave identity" And in German "Die Dritte welle" There is also a German film based on the third wave. It is interesting asking questions about what makes us unique? What does actually bring us together?
This also links back to representations
Social class, Gender, Age, Ethnicity, Religion, Disability.
It has made me think how do people see me, what do they think of me? How am i represented in people's eyes. It's all so interesting thinking of these type of questions. All these things can make me be unique to everyone.
For our music video I now think of how our viewers will read into our music video and how they can relate to the representations we include in our music video which will make our audience connect more with our music video.

Photos...

I have now just seen the photos that Rhys has taken, and they will be uploaded soon. We will be taking some more photos of the photos we have chosen, so we can show the different angles. We are now starting to think about the different locations and what shots we can use for them. We do need to take a few more photos because we want loads of different shots in our music video to make our music video more exciting. We can now continue with our storyboard because we now have an idea of the locations we are using. The locations we have chosen, link with our song because we have chosen places where the places and the shots can convey the mood of our music video. We have chosen quite dark closed spaces because the mood of our song is quite depressing and we want to keep this mood throughout the song to make it more effective and so it fits in with the mood of our song.

Sunday 11 October 2009

Storyboarding...

I havn't been blogging much at the moment, because i have been working on our storyboard. Our storyboard will be up soon. Rhys has taken the photos and I am going to have a look at them and i need to see some of the locations first before I can continue our storyboard so I know what the girl in our music video is going to be doing. Our pictures should be up within the next few days. So we should know the location by the next few days. We have loads of different locations to chose from. We are going to be careful chosing our locations, because we want them to convey the mood of our music video. We will be posting pictures and storyboard soon.

Web 2.0 digital literacy

This is an animation, that our group produced to show what Web 2.0 is. We used Xtranormal.com. This website allows you to choose your own characters, add actions and movement and speech. We developed a coneversation explaining what web 2.0 is. We then created a simple stop motion flick book to explain what web 2.0 is, in more detail. We used websites such as http://www.nickeid.com/ to show how one can interact with the internet. You can choose your own colours and design your own shoe. We also used Jason Pollack art which allows you to create abstract art. These are the tasks that we are going to set for the class.

Yesterday...

Yesterday I didn't post any blogs, as i was working on our storyboard. We will have this up shortly. Rhys went out yesterday and took some photos of possible locations for our music video. These will be up shortly too.

Plans For Tomorrow...

As I can get home tomorrow for around 12 O’clock I think that I will be able to get out and find some possible locations and I will be to take some pictures of the locations that I feel that would be a good setting for our Music Video, once I have taken these pictures I will be able to upload these photos using Flicker and then I will give brief overviews of each setting and why I feel that the setting would be a good location to use. I will try to take a variety of shots in each location and experiment with different angles shot distance and lengths.

Video Inspiration

I have just found some more inspiration for our music video. I found the song "Runaway" By Pink and tried to search for a music video, but unfortunatly she doesn't have a music video. So I found this music video that someone had created themselves to the same song, and i found this music video. It includes flashbacks of why the girl has ran away and this is what we want to portray in ours. However we are going to use a white screen to show are flashback because we think that the audience will then understand that it is a flashback and we will do our flashbacks in black and white to make it clearer. I like the way in this video how it fades in and out of the girl and i think we may do something like that for our video too.

Help with Story Boarding...

Dynamic Learning A2 Music Video Guide Exemplar

I have found this document on Mrs Hammond's blog, this document and this is really going to help us with our story board. as it will help us present our ideas in different ways. As we have just started our story board we can use ideas on here to help us. Once we have finished our story board we will upload it on our blog. This will help us to ensure that we can get our ideas across in an effective way. Not only will this help us with making a story board  for our music video but it will also help us with filming our music video.

Today...

Today we have started doing our story board and we are starting to think about the camera shots that we are going to be using in our music video. Once our story board is finished i will upload it on here. We are starting to think of possible locations that we will film our music video. I will upload the story board  once it is finished and explain it in detail and we will have the pictures of the locations up soon.

About our music video...

I have been starting to think about how our music video is going to look like. I have thought of an ending for our music video and have been looking at examples for this on youtube from films to show how the ending will be like. I will continue this post tomorrow and upload the examples that i have found and will explain how our ending will be like.

Website of "Midnight Hour"

Pictures Forrrr Website

These are some print screen shots that i have done of the band "Midnight hour"' 's MySpace page. I like the look of the webpage because they have a big picture of the band and the threee colour scheme draws the audience's attention. The colour scheme is bright and this could reflect the band's personality. They also talk about the band by introducing all the people that are in the band which makes it more personal and helps create that connection with the audience. They also have the music of the band and all their different songs which helps the audience to know their other tracks and listen to the ones they already know. Using a large font also attracts your attention. They don't have many words on there page which makes it quite simple and straight to the point. The words they do have help the audience to navigate around the page such as "Contact" or "Video updates". I think they have chosen not to have many words on their page so the audience can be more interested in their music. However they have wrote a bit about the band "We are lovers and liars,

We are sinners and saints." The words are quite informal and this creates a relaxed atmosphere and makes it more personal for the audience as they have being themseleves and the audience can get to know their true personalities.

More about the band "Midnight hour"

After just posting that blog about the video i watched that is similar to the song that we have for our music video. I did some research on this band and found out that they are an unsigned band just like our band. This could be helpful because we can see how they promoted their band. They do have a Myspace page, this could help us for the layout of our website page.

Similar Song To Our Music....

I really like this song that i have found, it's about running away. The song is called running away. Unfortunately this song doesn't seem to have a music video. So I have just uploaded it purely for the lyrics and the sound of the music. I feel that this song is very similar to our genre of music because there is only one main singer and we have only one singer in our video. I am going to do some more research on this band and find some more music video that will maybe give us some inspiration for our music video.

Sterotypical We May Need To Convey...

I have just had a look at this clip of the "Royal Tenenbaums" and it's a very graphic clip and we don't feel that we want to show the graphic side, but a lot of cases of people running away have a suicide case. We don't want to show this but we want to be able to show why our person in our video has run away, where she is running to, what has happend to make her feel like this. We can show this through flashbacks. We are going to have a non-linear narrative. We are thinking about including pictures of genuine missing people at the end and different statistics to make it more powerful and emotive.

Website Creation Software Ideas

I have been thinking about the website creation software that we could use to create of bands website and I have looked at a few different pieces of software, some of the pieces of software i have looked at include
  • Interspire Website Design, I feel that this software is very simple to use and easy to work with but i feel that if does not have enough features to create an effective opening page to a website, i also think that the cost of the software at $395.00 for the standard edition is too steep for a new band to be using and I feel that realistically they would probably not have to funding to use this software.
  • Serif Webplus 10. I have looked into the features of this software and it seems that it would be very capable of creating a decent website for a starting band, and for only $9.99 it would be an ideal product to use for a new band that needs a start up site i feel that we could use this then eventually move to more advanced software to create a better site.
  • Macromedia Dreamweaver C4. I have looked into this software and i feel that this software would be a very good investment as it is a very adequate website developments software and we already have access to this software also so it would be a good way to start with this software then improve software if we ever became mainstream. I also feel that this software would be the best to use as we already have a good knowledge and understanding about the features and how to operate this software so i feel that we could implement the best site to our ability using this software.

More Website Analysis

Snow Patrol Website

I have just looked at the website for snow patrol and again I have found it uses a three colour Palette and that the colours all contrast each other very well making all of the information stand out. I think that this is a very good tactic as the dark background makes the text stand out and the audience will be instantly drawn to the information. I fell that we could take idea and mould it for our website not Necessarily have the same colours but the same idea of having one main background colour then two contrasting colours for the text, I feel that if we did this type of layout then our website would be very effective because all our text and information about the band will stand out to our viewer. I also like the music playing on top of the site of the site as it gives the viewer a taste of new music from the band and upcoming tracks it also gives the band chance to see which of their songs are played more than others, this is a good idea as they can see how to aim their music at their audience. I feel that we could do this also as being a new band if we played our music when the website is opened then if the viewer just happened to stumble upon the site they might hear the music and possibly like it, this could then end up the viewer looking further into the band and possibly buying the song E.T.C.

The Femal Gaze

After our theory lesson on Laura Mulvey's theory of the female gaze i have thought about how we want our female character to come across, i have thought that we do not want our male audience to find our character more relatable than attractive so they are not losing the point of the song and its video. I also feel that our character should have an ivitational facial expression as even though she is upset and running away the audience can feel sorry or relate to our character.

For our music video...

For our music video after recieving advice from Mr Smith, I feel that it would be a good idea to include pictures of genuine missing people, this will then make our music video stronger and effective and will have a more realistic effect on the audience. I feel that the audience will then be able to relate to our music video more as running away and going missing is common in the world and in the UK. So our audience can relate to this.

Using an image like this, will make it more effective and we could also put a statistic at the end of our music video to make it more realistic and it will create that powerful effect on the audience.

Crimewatch

After watching Crimewatch yesterday this gave me some inspiration for our music video, as millions of people go missing every year and some of the cases are people running away and this is what we are going to show in our music video, someone running away. I feel that our audience can relate to our music video as running away is a common case that is seen on the news or heard on the radio or in the newspaper. It happens alot. I feel that the audience can then create a connection with our character and wonder why she is running away. It will leave the audience with lots of questions and they can have their own interpretations which will make the audience become involved in our music video.

Inspiration "Soul Aslyum- Runaway Train"

I have just watched "Runaway train" By Soul Aslyum which Mr Smith suggested i should watch and it has made me think more about the character that will be in our music video. As she is running away but there are a lot of reasons why teenagers run away and for our music video I think that the audience should have their own interpretations because this will then involve the audience. Running away is popular and i feel that this is a good subject that we are using because a lot of people can relate to this it will also bring in the cultural code.

I had a look at the lyrics for this song and i picked out a few to analyise

It seems no one can help me now
I'm in too deep
There's no way out
This time I have really led myself astray

I felt that this lyrics show how people feel when they runaway once they start running away they feel they can't do anything about what they have just done. They also feel lonely and they feel that noone can do anything to help them. There are so many reasons why people runaway and we want to make the audience question why our character has runaway.

Words on runaway children/teenagers:)

Wordle: word map
These are some of the words that I thought of and are sterotypical views on children and teenagers that run away from home. I think for our video we could use some of the words to make a sterotypical girl that is running away so that the audience can relate to the girl.

Mind map

I tried a new way of presenting what we need to do, and decided to do a mind map:) These are the things we are going to do:)

Sterotypes...

#

After looking at sterotypes in Mr Smith's "Theory tuesday". I decided to have a look at some music videos that have sterotypes as there are loads of sterotypes in this word. I found this music video of pink "Stupid girls". It's not the same genre that we are doing but i am also looking for that music video aswell, but we this video shows the sterotypes of blonde women and celebrities and the way they act. We are going to be having a woman in our video, we don't want to follow the sterotypes of them being "fake" but we might follow some of the conventions so that are audience can realte to the characters in our music video.

Sunday 27 September 2009

Sterotypes...

I have been trying to find music video's that have sterotypes in them with the genre that we are doing our music video on...It's been really hard and i have can't find any so i will do some more tomorrow... and try and find some:)

Website Ideas...

http://www.greenday.com/site/homepage.php

I have just looked at Greenday's website and i really like the font on this website as it's unusual and looks good with the background on the website as it's simple and stands out. The three colour scheme stands out and makes the website attract the audience's attention. We might use a similar font as we think it's effective.

Our song:)

05 Runaway by Jess Jenkinson

This is our song that we will be using for our music video:) The name of the song is Runaway:)

A little bit about the band name...

The name of our band is "Shattered dreams" and we feel that this name is a good name for a band because there could be alot of connotations of these words and this could give the audience their own interpretations and it will create a connection with the aduience as they can have their own ideas, which will make them like are bad because their interpretaions they choose to have will make them be more interested in our band.

Video Inspiration

This clip is an As media 1st draft and the song that they used was "Learn To Fly" By The Foo Fighters

From 00:50 To 00:55 As in the song that we have it has a part of the song where it says "The Look In Her Eyes" and i feel that while those lyrics are being said a shot like this could be a sort of transition from one shot to another, like in this scene.I also fell that this shot could be very stong as it could be used to show the hurt and pain in our charcters eyes, giving the audience a clear indication to how she is feeling.

My Video Research

Tonight i have done some music video research and i have looked at a wide range of rock styles of music and their music videos. Artists that i have looked at consist of Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Metallica, WhiteSnake, Green Day E.T.C. and while looking at all these different groups i have noticed that not one video i have watched today has there been a whole video consiting of actors, there has always been shots of the band in the video to promote them. I feel that this may make our music video very different as we plan to have the whole video consisting of actors to tell our story and not any shots of the band. I fell this would work as the audience may not get to see the band but they may get into the story and keep watching, this would then give the band more advertisement because if they enjoyed the video and the music the audience would then go and research the band

More Music Video Research

This video i have researched is the song by Green Day 'When September Ends' again we feel that this song fall under the softer genre of rock and we also like it again because it tells a story throughout the music video. I like this videos especially as it is a very gripping video if you watch it as it has a very contradicting start and end. The start of the video has a young couple spending time together and both of them are happy, and as the video progresses the male is recruited into the army and, the effects that the army has on couples.

Rhys.......

Foo FIghters Research

I have looked into the band formed by former Nirvana drummer 'Dave Grohl' i have found at that like our music the band 'Foo Fighters' started out very small time again like our band. I have also found out that while 'Dave Ghrol' was still with the band 'Nirvana' he was constantly writing song and keeping them back from the band. When 'Nirvana' broke up 'Ghrol' went on in his career and kept writing songs, he then started to hand out free copies of his recorded music around to his friends and other people to get an awareness of his music. I Think this would be a good way of advertising our music so this could be a possible distribution method. Finally music distributors got hold of his sample music and called 'Ghrol' and sad they would like to help distribute his music this is when he formed the ban 'Foo Fighters'

I think that this would be good inspiration for our band as we can know that it is possible to cross over into the mainstream industry.

Music Distributor Research

We have chosen an underground distributor to distribute our music as we feel that it would be more realistic than trying to distribute with bigger music labels. At first we choose the independent distributor but after researching their organisation further we have found that they have not really been very active distributors in recent year so we then decided to go with another method we feel would be more successful we feel that if we distributed our music through Viral marketing sites such as Facebook, Myspace E.T.C. we feel that this way we can distribute our music freely and first create a fan base for our music. We feel this would be a more successful approach to distribution as once we have a fan base backing us it would be easier to get into the music distributing business as artists without backing are less likely to have their music distributed than artists with backing.

I have done some research into general website looks and layout for artists/bands that are the same genre of music as our band, i have looked at artists such as 'Sting', 'Rod Stewert' and mant more and i have found that there is a general layout that is common amung these sites i have found that the either the bakground of the actual site is a picture or there is a large picture of the band centered in the middle of the page so you instantly recongnise them when you lookat the site, there is also a common feature of tabs across the tops of the pages with things such as tour dates, ticket booking E.T.C., i think that we should style our site similar as these woth slight altercations, such as i think we should have large text in the centre of our page with an eye catching font to grab the viewers attention. If we can instantly grab the audiences attention at the instant they open he page then hopefuly they will continue to read on, I feel this would work better as the faces of the band would not be very well know so the audince might just click off the site.

I have also found that most of the sites i have looked at have followed a 'Three Colour Pallet' colour scheme where you have the main background one darker colour and then a very contrasting colour for the text, then the final colour is used for important links/news E.T.C.

Foo Fighters Website

http://www.foofighters.com

I have looked at the band 'The Foo Fighters' opening page to their website and i feel that the opening page to this site may be a little too simple as it is just a picture of them on stage and an E-Mail sign up box, i feel that we can take inspiration from this still thou as i think that the colour scheme of white and black works very well and I fell it is very eye catching and stands out. This is effective as it grabs the audiences attention and this is the target of our website page. I also like the tabs at the top of the site as it is easy to find an navigate thorough the site itself and from experience i know that if a website is harder to navigate then it is more likely the audience will click off of it, So i feel that we cold take some inspiration from the tabbed pages layout.

Website Ideas...

http://www.nickelback.com

Even though most of Nickelback songs are more rock than soft rock, because we have been inspired by their soft rock video "Photograph". I decided to have a look at their website for an idea of our website. I really like their enter page for their website they have a music video on the front, and for ours it would be really good if we can put our video on our website. I think the colour scheme of using 3 colours is effective and this stands out and draws the attention of the audience.

Another CD Cover inspiration...

As i have been inspired by Nickelbacks Soft rock song "Photograph", I decided to have a look at the album cover, i really like this album cover because it's simple but it draws attention. The colour scheme works well and using only 3/4 colours makes the album look a lot nicer. We both want to have an iconic abstract object on our CD cover and having an iconic symbol will link into our theory that we will be applying to our music video of "the semantic code" and if we use an iconic symbol which has connotations and denotations the audience can find their own underlying meaning. Having their own interpretations will make them more involved with our music and will also create a connection between the audience and the music, because they can relate to the interpretation that they have come up with.

Inspiration...:)

I found Nickelback's "Photograph" music video. I really like this video because the video tells a story. The lyrics are shown in the story. We want our lyrics to be shown through our music video. I also like the use of different settings that are used in this video, and the amount of different shots that are used keep the audience gripped and it makes it more exciting for an audience watching the video having lots of different shots.

Theorists we have decided our music video will follow...

Our music video will follow Roland Barthes narrative theory. Our music video will have a closed narrative theory as it will have one single story line that will unravel through the song. It is also going to be a linear narrative as there will no flash backs within our Music video. We will also apply “The Semantic Code” within our music video because we want to have symbols that we will have connotations and denotations so that our audience will be gripped to our music video because they can have their own interpretations from our video. This will also create a conncection with the audience as we are involving them in our music video.

Cd Cover Idea...

Morning:) As we have both been looking at Greendays video "Wake me up when september ends" I decided to have a look at their album cover. I like quite a lot about the cover. I like the simple cover scheme. The 3 colours stand out and it instantly draws you in. The picture is has no band members on the cover and for our CD cover we want to be able to have a abstract picture because we think this will attract our audience more. However there are some things that i don't like about the picture. I think the picture shows blood and we don't want violence on our CD cover but the colour scheme we may use.

Music video inspiration...

I have found this Video of Celine Dion "My heart will go on". Her music is classified as soft rock. I chose this song because the song tells a story and the story is shown through the music video. However in this music video the artist is shown and in our music video we want to make it a little different because we just want to show our story through the music video because we want our audience to be completely gripped to our story.

Our pitch today...

After doing our pitch today, it didn't go as expected and we have know had a long and hard thought about our media and we have know had a long think about what we are doing. We are still doing a music video but we have made the genre more specific and we have changed our target audience that we feel will appeal to our audience. After recieving a lot of advice today, we both feel that we are more clearer on who we are aiming our music video at and what the genre of the video is.

Jess...

Genre of music video...

We feel that the genre of our rock wasn't specific enough. So we want to make it clear that the genre of our music video is Rock but our music video is more softer rock. So we are going to classify the genre of our music video as "Soft Rock". Soft rock is a style of music which uses techniques of rock and roll and is also referred to as Mellow rock, Light rock or Easy rock. Soft rock usually contains elements of Folk Rock and singer-songwriter pop to make a softer sound and an easy listen. We feel that our music isn't heavy rock and it is softer rock. Having classified our genre we have know changed our target audience as we feel that are target audience will appeal more to 25-34. We still feel that a younger audience will listen to this that's why we are still targeting younger people but we feel that our target audience we chose before was too young.

Target audience changed...

We have decided to change our target audience as we think 16-50 is too broad and we have know tightened our audience. We have know decided to change our target audience to 16-30 as we feel this is a smaller audience type to aim our music video at. We feel that our music is popular for the target audience that we have chosen. Our target audience will also be people that like the genre of "rock" in our age range which will be a lot of people as "rock" is mostly popular amongst the younger generation. We also feel that it is a varied age range as the music we are doing the video for may appeal to a very wide audience. however the main type of our audience would probably be in the social class of C1 downwards as i feel that these people would probably be more likely to listen to this genre of music more than the higher social classes. I also feel that at this point in time as we would just be starting out as producers and distributors of the music we would probably not appeal to the aspires and main streamers however we feel that if our music did 'Take Off' then eventually we would be able to get more expensive locations, Actors E.T.C. to appeal to the aspires

Inspiration...

Watching "The Royal Tenembaums"
In class we watched "The Royal Tenembaums" and it gave us some inspirations for our music video. In this film there are a lot of hidden meanings and a lot of connotations in the film which makes it a lot more interesting for the audience watching this film. The director was very clever in doing this and it gives the audience their chance of having their own interpretations. We don't want our music video to be complicated but we want to be able to create a connection with the audience by allowing the audience to come up with their own interpretations. Having different symbols within our video will allow the audience to see the different connotations and this will create a connection with the audience.

Our idea:)

We are making a music video, showing a story to the song. We are aiming our music video at people aged 16-50. We decided to have a large target audience as we feel that our music will appeal to lots of different age ranges. Different ages have listened to our song and it's popular with the different ages. The genre of music video is rock. We have decided to do aa rock video as we are both interested in the genre of rock and we both feel that the targe audience we have choosen will be interested in this genre.
